Thank you for choosing an MSVTrackdays. These details will provide you with the information that you need to have a safe and enjoyable day. Its best to have a run through the essentials below so you don't get caught out by something you haven't thought of. Shortly before your event you will receive a secondary 'final instructions' email with finer detail including garage allocation (if applicable) - unless you have booked very last minute.

At the circuit any of the event team will be happy to assist if you get stuck on what to do next and where to go. The 'On the day' section will give you an overview of how things run. Noise limits are the most common question so we have started with them. If you have a question that we haven't covered on our T&C's or full FAQ's then please call us on: 0843 453 3000. Asking on the day may be too late.

  • Registration and Indemnity Form

    Registration and Indemnity Form

    This trackday will give you the opportunity to drive in the wheel tracks of racing legends and in a much safer, more liberated environment than on the road. Although we make every endeavour to ensure that risks are controlled, high speed driving is a dangerous activity and in attending the event you are choosing to accept those risks. When taking part in a trackday, you do so entirely at your own risk.

    Registration/Indemnity form

    For Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Oulton Park or Snetterton you will need to fill out this registration indemnity form before taking part in any track activity. For Bedford Autodrome it is this registration indemnity form. These forms will be available at registration but to speed things up it would be great if you would please download, print and complete one in advance.   • On the day

    Signing on
    The registration/signing on point will be indicated by a tall orange flag labelled "Sign On". Your final instructions email will pin point its location. To sign on you will need to fill out a MotorSport Vision indemnity form which is available to download from the registration page. If you are unable to print one in advance, copies will be available at signing on. You must produce your valid UK Driving licence (photo card or old paper licence) or its overseas equivalent at the time of registration; please note that photocopies cannot be accepted. Participants under the age of 18 will require their parent or guardian to be present, and to countersign their indemnity form. On most events a race licence is also acceptable. Please read our 'Driver and Passenger requirements' section or call us, in advance of your booking, if unsure.

    Noise Testing
    All vehicles must be noise tested before taking part in any on track activity. The noise test area will be indicated by a tall orange flag labelled 'Noise Testing'. The noise limit for your event is indicated on the individual event page. Please see the Noise Limits section for further details.

    Safety Briefing
    A full safety briefing will take place prior to track activity; this briefing is compulsory for all drivers. The briefing place will be indicated by a tall orange flag labelled 'Briefing'. Should you arrive late, please report to a member of the organisers or the Control Tower Supervisor, who will be based in the Control Tower, where arrangements will be made for you to be individually briefed. After registration and briefing you will be issued with two coloured wristbands. You will not be allowed access to the circuit without these.

    Sighting Laps
    All drivers must complete sighting laps prior to track activity and are an opportunity for you to familiarise yourself with the the circuit at a reduced pace.

     

  • On track

    Track Notes

    • On entering the circuit please keep to the right hand side and do not move over until the circuit behind you is clear.
    • Use the first few laps to warm up your tyres and familiarise yourself with the conditions.
    • Consider other drivers - Leave plenty of space when you overtake other cars. Allow faster drivers past easily by 'lifting off' (do not brake) with indication and slow move to the right.
    • OVERTAKING is on the LEFT ONLY and on the straight sections as detailed in the drivers briefing on the day.
    • TYRE NOISE AND DRIVING STANDARDS. Any driver generating excessive, unnecessary or constant tyre squeal or is deemed to be driving recklessly or in a manner considered to endanger themselves or other track users will be black flagged, removed from the track and given a final warning. If the driver continues to give cause for concern a second black flag will be given and he or she will be denied further access to the track for the rest of the day. Deliberate power slides will be dealt with in exactly the same way. The event team reserve the right to exclude the driver immediately if the situation demands it.
    • If your car breaks down please pop your hand up to signal you are unable to restart. If involved in an incident do not leave your vehicle (unless on fire - move to a safe position behind the barriers). Keep your helmet on. If you see an incident, do not stop unless it is unsafe to continue.
    • Anyone who ignores red flags or the direction of marshals will be asked to leave the venue - the marshals are there for YOUR SAFETY.
    • The medical/safety car has a paramedic on board and can join the circuit via emergency access points. Please be aware that these vehicles have the right of way on the circuit and will overtake on the left so please move over to the right.

    On a track day we use certain flags and lights to signal to all drivers. When you are on your sighting laps please familiarise yourself with the position of the live marshal posts and light positions. The following are the types of flags you will see:

    Waved Yellow - Danger ahead, possibility of incident or hazard, reduce your speed by 30% (check mirrors first) and NO OVERTAKING.

    Red - A major incident has occurred and the session is immediately stopped. Please instantly reduce speed by 50% (check mirrors first), pull over to the right to allow recovery vehicles to pass and return to the pit lane. NO OVERTAKING.

    Blue - The vehicle behind is trying to overtake - please indicate and move to the right hand side of the circuit.

    Yellow & Red Striped - There is a change in the track surface condition or something on circuit to avoid, i.e. fluid or debris, etc. Reduce speed, adjust line if required exercise caution.

    Black - There is either a mechanical problem with your vehicle, your have failed the driveby noise teast or we need to discuss an aspect of your driving. Please return to the pits immediately and report to a pit lane marshal.

    Chequered - The end of the session. Please reduce your speed and return to the pits. No overtaking is allowed during this lap.

    Pit Lane Notes

    • If you have use of a garage, please ensure you adhere to all the terms and conditions displayed therein.
    • Fire lanes must be kept clear at all times.
    • The pit lane is strictly one way, as is the track. The pit lane speed limit is 30mph.
    • Only people taking part in the current session are allowed in the pit lane.
    • It is forbidden to sit on the pit wall.
    • It is forbidden to re-fuel in the pit lane.
    • It is forbidden to store fuel in the garages or in the pit lane.
    • It is forbidden to smoke in the pit lane or garages.
    • Children under 16 who are not participating are not allowed in the pit lane.

    Services

    • Passengers will need to register and sign on. Please see Regulations and General Information (below) for conditions.
    • Helmets are available for hire in advance or on the day and your driving licence/credit card will be retained as a deposit.
    • Instruction can be booked in advance, and your session will be allocated on arrival. Our professional instructors can provide you with valuable advice about circuit driving and how to get the best out of your car.
    • Helmets are available for hire in advance or on the day and your driving licence/credit card will be retained as a deposit.
    • Most events will have professional sports photographers taking high quality pictures of everyone out on track. Details will be given out in the morning drivers briefing. They can be purchased online after the event.

     

  • What happens if I keep running off circuit?

    What happens if I keep running off circuit?

    This information applies to both our car track days and drifting events. There are two parts to this. Firstly if you spin off. You need to come into the pits immediately and report to the marshal. If you don't you will be black flagged. We need to check your car is ok before continuing, discuss your error and note your wrist band number. If you spin again the car may be excluded from the remainder of the day at the discretion of the Chief instructor. A spinning car puts yourself and others (including the marshall's) at risk.

    The second part is putting one or more wheels off the outer 'limits of the circuit'. I.e beyond the white lines. We have the following system in place which runs hand in hand with MSA regulations:

    You are now permitted to drive on the track asphalt up to and including the white line, and on the full extent of any kerbs (marked red/white). However you are not permitted to put a wheel beyond the white lines or kerbs. If anyone does not comply, the following actions will be taken by the circuit:

    1st infringement Black/white driving standards flag warning

    2nd infringement Black flag, report to control tower, final warning without penalty

    3rd infringement Black flag, 20 minute track time exclusion

    Further infringements Black flag, 20 minute track time exclusion

    Decisions by circuit staff will be final and there will be no right of appeal against any penalty or right to review evidence. Furthermore if track limits regulations are abused, especially in a repeated and/or deliberate manner, then MSV reserves the right to exclude both the car and driver individually and MSV will make no refund or compensation.

  • Driver and passenger requirements

    Driver Requirements

    All drivers must hold and present at the event, one of the following licences and comply with the relevant regulations in order to take part in a track day. DVLA road licence - must be a fully unrestricted (not provisional) valid driving licence issued by the DVLA (or the equivalent foreign licensing authority in the driver's country of residence) with the appropriate category clearly indicated. MSA National B (or higher) race licence - must be a current MSA National B (or higher) race licence. Drivers aged 16-18 years must book by phone and gain approval prior to the event. Drivers aged 16-18 years with a senior National B must use a vehicle that is relevant and of similar performance to their race car which must also be approved in advance by the MSV Trackdays team. They can only drive on circuit on their own or with an ARDS Grade "A" instructor. They cannot carry general passengers. For drivers aged 16-18 with a valid MSA National B "Junior" Race Licence the additional criteria must also be met:

    • Such driver is using one of the three Junior Championship Vehicles. (Ginetta Junior, SAXMAX, Fiesta Junior)
    • Such driver has an ARDS Grade "A" instructor with them at all times when on circuit.
    • Such driver has, prior to the date of the event, provided written proof of their competence and licence, Instructor's licence details, and what car they plan on using to the MSV Track days team.
    • Such driver's parent or legal guardian has signs and complete the relevant section of the Registration Form on the day of the event.

    Passenger Requirements

    All passengers must wear the appropriate wrist band. Only one passenger may be carried in the vehicle at any one time. Passengers under the age of 18 must have the appropriate section of the registration form signed by their parent or legal guardian. In any case the minimum age for passengers is 14 yrs except at Bedford Autodrome where the minimum age for anyone going on site is 16 yrs.

    All participants

    • All participants must wear a suitable crash helmet. Participants will require a full face helmet and have arms and legs covered if you are in an open top/convertible vehicle. We recommend that helmets comply with current safety requirements of the BSI 6658-85A or BSI 6658-85A/FR, or MSA/ACU/FIM/FIA standards. In all cases, helmets must be correctly fitted and securely fastened. If we deem your helmet inappropriate for trackday use then you may be required to hire a helmet from us and pay the appropriate fee.
    • Seat belts or harnesses must be worn at all times on the venue.
    • Arms and legs must be covered whilst on circuit.
    • If you have any problems with any other drivers on the day, please report to the event team or the Race Control Supervisor.
    • No participant shall consume or be under the influence of alcohol at any time.
    • No participant shall be under the influence of drugs / medication (prescribed or otherwise) or have any pre-existing medical condition noticeable under the appropriate Road Traffic Acts that will adversely affect his or her performance.
    • No timekeeping or pace making of any sort is allowed on the trackday.
    • When driving an MSV vehicle on circuit, you will be required to pay up to £1500 in respect of any damage to the vehicle regardless of fault.

     

  • Vehicle prep and requirements

    You should always keep your car regularly serviced and in a road/trackworthy condition, but for the avoidance of doubt please note the following requirements and reccomendations:

    Tyres
    Must be in good condition and we reccommend checking pressures are suitable. You should check your tyres regularly throughout the day for wear and damage; tyre wear will occur considerably faster than you would experience during normal road driving. Do remember to allow your tyres a chance to warm up. Slicks are permitted on General Track Days unless otherwise stated - although an MSA approved roll cage must be fitted.

    Brakes
    Must be in good condition when taking to the track. Brake pads should have been bedded in. Again, your brakes will wear much quicker than on the road and you need to check them regularly throughout the event.

    Suspension
    Suspension and steering parts will define how well your car handles on the track; always ensure that these components are in good condition.

    Engine
    Your engine will be under greater stress than normal. Check all belts and filters in advance. You may use more oil than usual so it is advisable to bring some with you to keep the level topped up. Never overfill the oil, and always use the best oil available to protect your engine.

    Bodywork and chassis
    All vehicles must be 'closed-wheel' for track day events. Open wheels/single seaters are not permitted. Open top cars will only be permitted when fitted with a full MSA/FIA approved roll safety device, or other road homologated roll over safety device. Road homologated vehicles which do not have the above by virtue of their manufactured date, but which are still in standard road homologated specification are also permitted, although MSV recommends the use of such equipment for circuit driving. All cars must have working seatbelts regardless of age. The bodywork and chassis should be checked - we don't want any components flying off on track.

    Towing eyes
    Make sure that you know where your towing attachments are located. Towing eyes need to be fitted ready for sighting laps.

    Items in your car
    A simple tool kit is handy to have with you but before you go on the circuit make sure that you remove everything from the car that is not firmly fixed down. Pens and soft drinks cans can become lethal projectiles. Also make sure you remove everything from the boot of the car. In some cases this also means the spare wheel (remember that MotorSport Vision cannot take responsibility for belongings).

    Lights
    It is advised that front and rear glass lights should be taped up before entering the circuit - in an accident the glass in your lights can shatter, creating a hazard on track. Existing brake lights must be in working order.

    On board Recording Equipment
    Your own equipment can be used as long as it is all safely and securely attached, using mounting systems specifically designed for that purpose. The event team do reserve the right to refuse use of the equipment if they deem it unsuitable.

    Fire extinguisher
    In case of a fire on track the marshals have the equipment and training to deal with the situation. However a fire extinguisher in your car is a good idea, so long as it is professionally secured.

    Fuel
    You must ensure that you have enough fuel at the start of each session. You are likely to use three times as much fuel as normal road driving. If you run out on track your car will be removed to a safe position. This is an unnecessary disruption for other track users too.

    At the end of your trackday
    At the end of the day you must ensure that your car is roadworthy and legal if driving home - check tyres and brakes, remove tape from lights and return the car to a fully road legal state.

    Insurance
    Insurance is not compulsory and is your choice. It is unlikely that your normal car insurance policy will insure you. There are specialist companies who provide track day insurance.

     

  • Cancellations

    If you are unable to attend the booked trackday, please call our sales team as soon as possible during office hours (Mon-Fri 8:30 - 18:00. In these circumstances, then, provided MSV Trackdays are notified no later than 14 days prior to the original booking date, MSVT will endeavour to reschedule your booking or provide a credit towards a later trackday (subject to availability) up to the face value of the existing booking.* MSVT are unable to cancel, credit or refund bookings within 14 days of the event at the request of the customer. In most cases a name change is permissable.

    Any credit held by MSVT must be used within a three month period. For example, if you cancel your trackday on the 1st January 2014, you must have booked an alternative date by the 1st April 2014. Any credits not used within the three month period automatically cancel.

    Any amendments to trackday bookings must be requested by emailing our Trackday Sales team at trackdays@msv.com stating clearly the track day to which the amendment relates.

    Any cancellations or amendments to track day bookings requested by you will incur an administration fee of 10% or £20 which ever is the greater. All offers of credit are entirely at the discretion of MSV.

    MSVT may have to cancel a trackday due to events beyond its control, for example adverse weather conditions. This will usually be in the interests of safety. Where a trackday is cancelled in its entirety for such reasons, MSVT will endeavour to notify participants of the cancellation by email.

    MSVT are unable to re-imburse third party costs incurred due to the cancellation and unfortunately cannot guarantee that participants will be informed of such cancellation before the date of the event. Where a track day is cancelled in its entirety for such reasons, MSVT will endeavour to offer a credit note to the value of the original booking to be used against another MSVT event within a three month period.

Noise Regulations

All racing circuits have noise restrictions and at MSVT we are unfortunately no exception. It is extremely important that we operate in compliance with our limits so that we also minimise any disturbance to local communities. At MSVT events the noise testing area is indicated by a tall orange flag labelled 'Noise Test'.

  • Static noise testing

    These days, all racing circuits have noise restrictions. It is extremely important that we operate in compliance with our set limits. We must act in accordance with the regulations to ensure the future of trackdays for everyone that abides by the rules. Please help us by making your vehicle as quiet as possible before taking part in any on circuit activity. Anyone wishing to have their car tested before a track day is more than welcome to come to one of our circuits during our events and have a noise test free of charge. It takes just a few minutes.

    The initial test is a static test which is carried out using a handheld meter. Each car is measured 0.5 meters away from the exhaust at a 45 degree angle when the engine is being held at ¾ of the maximum RPM. In cases where the vehicle has two separated exhausts the measurement will be taken as below from the median point between the two.

    Additional Information
    Factors such as air temperature and humidity can affect the level of noise that your car is producing. If you are ever within 1dB(A) of  a particular limit then we suggest that you strongly consider having your car looked at before making another booking.

     

  • Drive-By noise monitoring

    In addition to the initial static test our circuits have a continuous automated 'drive-by' meter operating to ensure vehicles continue to adhere to the noise restriction in place. 

    If the results of the drive-by monitoring show that your vehicle is exceeding the drive-by then you will be called into the pit-lane to address the noise level being generated.

    The circuits drive by limits are:

    Brands Hatch 92db. Evenings with a 98db static have a 88db drive by

    Bedford Autodrome 87.5db

    Exhausts do get louder with age as the packing deteriorates and it may be that you need to purchase an additional silencer or have the exhaust repacked before attending another event.
